In these last years, the situation in Somalia has become more and more difficult and dangerous. The fall of the dictator in the years 90's has been followed by a civil war, fomented by the "lords of war". In 1994 the United Nations decided an armed intervention (called "Operation Restore Hope") in order to bring to an end the civil war and the death for hunger and thirst of thousands of people. But dais problem has not yet been solved.
At present it is a nation without a stable government, with no existing structures for health and education; the life of children is at risk, there is lack of water, and die economy cannot revive. The population is decimated by diseases and there are no medicines. There is no security because the Country is under siege from the part of armed gangs who dictate their law in every place, especially in towns.
For the past seventeen years the presence of die international co-operation has been almost annulled in Somalia. In 1994 Poola International Association of Charities has decided to intervene with projects aiming to give a hope of life to the rural populations of the zone of Afgoi, which is at 30 kilometers from the capital, Mogadishu.
